At the end of 1994, Dr. Loganathan's employer-Health Net® of New Jersey-decided to close their operations in Connecticut due to deteriorating financial conditions that cost the practices money.

The reasons for financial failure were obvious: waste and inefficiency in all aspects of the practice. Due to staff inattention and turnover, billing was not delivering the revenues; the practice was overstaffed, and the start of managed care was no longer supporting the supplementary ancillary services. Reimbursement was falling, and patient portion of the accounts receivable continued growing. So, Dr. Loganathan purchased the practice in Waterbury, Connecticut in attempts to turn it around.

At the same time, Dr. Loganathan's husband, Nat, was part of a successful software business catering to the semiconductor industry. Nat's attention was drawn to the billing process and overstaffing that had resulted from inefficient workflow. With his skill as a software engineer and information provided by his wife, he designed billing-process software for the Physician that, while increasing efficiency, would enable the Physician to spend more time where is truly matters-with the patients.
